The Challenger PTA Science Fair is held each year in the spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project.

A home-based, incentive writing program with prizes for various “levels” based on journal writing entries made during the summer vacation break. The goal is to reward creative writing and encourage students that may not have a natural motivation to write. Forms were distributed at the end of the school year in your child's classroom.

MATHBLASTERS is a program where students are encouraged to track their time doing at-home math-related games and activities for a week. Both on-line games (with a limit of 2 hrs daily) and board or card games count towards a daily total. Homework and classroom activities do not count toward this program. Tracking forms will be send home prior to the start of the program.

Assist the Literacy Chair in creating art projects with the children in their classroom.

Reflections is a National PTA Student Art Contest. Student can submit original work of art created by 100% by themselves. Categories: visual art, literature, music, dance choreography, video, and photography.

Zoom Around the Moon Walk-A-Thon! Children get pledges and earn incentives for the amount of money raised. One lap around the school property will equal 275 miles around the Moon's circumference! The goal is for each child to walk 25 laps & together raise $30,000. The money raised will support the many PTA programs that the Challenger community enjoys throughout the school year. Adults can cheer on their kids, buy tickets for fabulous prizes and have fun while supporting their school!

Does your employer participate in a Matching Gift Program? This is a great way to double your donation to Challenger PTA. Contact your Human Resources Department for Corporate Matching Donation information. Many Coporate Match Donations are completed online, take care to designate Challenger PTA as the recipient.

Help Chairperson with collecting, counting and submitting of donated labels. Label drop off box is in the atrium.
www.boxtops4education.com Collect the special General Mills Box Top labels from a large variety of products. Bring them to school and Challenger PTA earns 10 cents for each label submitted.
www.labelsforeducation.com Collect Cambells' Soup labels. Cut out the special Labels for Education coupon from a variety of products. ie Prego, Franco American, Swanson Broth, Pepperidge Farm AND Cambell's Soup. The labels are redeemed for points and used to 'buy' playground equipment, incentive prizes, books etc.

Be the liaison between the PTA and the classrooms coordinators, mostly by forwarding the emails received.

Make and Take Craft Festival: an an Afternoon of Fun & Crafts for Family & Friends where kids get to make fun winter decorations, ornaments, gifts and more at class sponsored craft tables.

The PTA sponsors this international cultural event. The goal of the festival is to encourage learning about our global society and educate others about our individual heritage. Challenger families showcase their cultures through music, dance, crafts, food samples, artifacts and displays.

Various seminars are offered to the community regarding internet safety, adolescent stress and depression, parent education, and many more.

Super Volunteers will help with any & all needed programs and events when needed. By signing up you will receive an email when volunteers are needed for events such as "Vision & Hearing" "Picture Day" and "Bake Sales."

Assist the Community committee with their events such as Food Drives and Clothing Drives.

This committee handles the PTA membership drive at the beginning of the year. We are striving for 100% membership! Becoming a Family member provides you with two student directories and your PTA Membership fee is 100% TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. Please note: It is against Washington State PTA Bylaws to sell or distribute membership lists to outside interests for commercial purposes.

An after school celebration to honor the PTA and Staff Members who have gone over and above this school year; the Issaquah School District also has their own celebration.

Assist the School Nurse in screening students' vision and hearing. Click on the Volunteer site to sign-up to help in escorting classes, checking hearing or vision. After signing up, you will be contacted as to your preference. Both morning and afternoon assistance is needed.

Come celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday and hear great bedtime stories read by Challenger teachers and other guests. Earn 75 Eager Reader minutes!

Pop and sell the popcorn for the students every Friday. The coordinator will contact you directly to create schedule.

Help our Librarian keep the library organized or the Gift-a-Book program. The Gift-a-Book celebrates your student’s birthday by donating a new book to Challenger’s library. Our chairperson works with the librarian to send home a Gift-a-Book invitation form during your student’s birth month. You select a purchase price & send in your payment, your student selects a book, and a bookplate is placed on the inside front page to acknowledge your gift honoring your student. Additionally, your student gets to be the first to check out that book. Click on the Volunteer Page to sign up as a volunteer.

Make it easier for your child to save their own money by opening a Save at School bank account at First Mutual Bank. Once the account is open, your child can bring their money to the atrium on Tuesday mornings from 8:15-8:45am for deposit into their bank account. An adult volunteer collects and records each deposit and brings it to the bank. Monthly statements will be sent to your home and your child can watch their money accumulate! Help them save for a big ticket item or save money just to save money! Go to the Volunteers Page to sign up to help.

When kids leave items in school they end up in Lost & Found. Click on the Volunteer Page to sign up to help assist in keeping this area organized.

Scholastic book fair is an opportunity to buy books and support Challenger. Challenger PTA coordinates the Scholastic Book Fair, in which book profit earned is shared between the PTA, the librarian and the school staff. Books given as Eager Reader Level 12 prizes come from our Scholastic Book Fair profit.

The PTA provides funding for classroom resources through “Comet Cash” and grants. Comet Cash is money given directly to all teachers (for their individual use) and other staff members to be used for classroom and building needs not normally met by the school or district budget. Teacher grants are awarded to applicants who need extraordinary funding for specific needs. Examples of items purchased with Comet Cash and Teacher Grants include:

• Books - Accelerated Reader; McGraw Hill Leveled Reader; Literary Circle; etc.
• Audio-Visual (AV) Equipment for Classroom Use, including ActivBoard
