A home-based, incentive writing program with prizes for various “levels” based on journal writing entries made during the summer vacation break. The goal is to reward creative writing and encourage students that may not have a natural motivation to write. Forms were distributed at the end of the school year in your child's classroom.

MATHBLASTERS is a program where students are encouraged to track their time doing at-home math-related games and activities for a week. Both on-line games (with a limit of 2 hrs daily) and board or card games count towards a daily total. Homework and classroom activities do not count toward this program. Tracking forms will be send home prior to the start of the program.

Zoom Around the Moon Walk-A-Thon! Children get pledges and earn incentives for the amount of money raised. One lap around the school property will equal 275 miles around the Moon's circumference! The goal is for each child to walk 25 laps & together raise $30,000. The money raised will support the many PTA programs that the Challenger community enjoys throughout the school year. Adults can cheer on their kids, buy tickets for fabulous prizes and have fun while supporting their school!

Bring them to school and Challenger PTA earns 10 cents for each label submitted. www.labelsforeducation.com Collect Cambells' Soup labels. Cut out the special Labels for Education coupon from a variety of products. ie Prego, Franco American, Swanson Broth, Pepperidge Farm AND Cambell's Soup. The labels are redeemed for points and used to 'buy' playground equipment, incentive prizes, books etc. The Box Tops and Labels for Education drop off box is in the atrium. |

Help our Librarian keep the library organized or the Gift-a-Book program. The Gift-a-Book celebrates your student’s birthday by donating a new book to Challenger’s library. Our chairperson works with the librarian to send home a Gift-a-Book invitation form during your student’s birth month. You select a purchase price & send in your payment, your student selects a book, and a bookplate is placed on the inside front page to acknowledge your gift honoring your student. Additionally, your student gets to be the first to check out that book. Click on the Volunteer Page to sign up as a volunteer.

Make it easier for your child to save their own money by opening a Save at School bank account at First Mutual Bank. Once the account is open, your child can bring their money to the atrium on Tuesday mornings from 8:15-8:45am for deposit into their bank account. An adult volunteer collects and records each deposit and brings it to the bank. Monthly statements will be sent to your home and your child can watch their money accumulate! Help them save for a big ticket item or save money just to save money! Go to the Volunteers Page to sign up to help.

Scholastic book fair is an opportunity to buy books and support Challenger. Challenger PTA coordinates the Scholastic Book Fair, in which book profit earned is shared between the PTA, the librarian and the school staff. Books given as Eager Reader Level 12 prizes come from our Scholastic Book Fair profit.

The PTA provides funding for classroom resources through “Comet Cash” and grants. Comet Cash is money given directly to all teachers (for their individual use) and other staff members to be used for classroom and building needs not normally met by the school or district budget. Teacher grants are awarded to applicants who need extraordinary funding for specific needs. Examples of items purchased with Comet Cash and Teacher Grants include:
• Books - Accelerated Reader; McGraw Hill Leveled Reader; Literary Circle; etc. • Audio-Visual (AV) Equipment for Classroom Use, including ActivBoard • Music materials including assorted musical instruments and supplies • Poster Making and Book Binding Machines • Playground/Recess Equipment and Games • Updated Geographical Maps • Dies for Die Cut Machine • Analog Clocks • Art Supplies |
